I witnessed this on the train. There was this whole seats occupied by men. Suddenly, two ladies came and stand at the front of those men. The first lady was beautiful and sophisticated while the other one looks plain and simple. Then, the man on the front of the beautiful lady offered his seat. The other lady remained standing. No one offered a seat. No one became gentleman for her. And as the train stops to different stations, she remained standing while the beautiful lady was still sitting pretty.
It's very disappointing that this kind of situation becames a norm in our society. Not just that scenario could set an example for this. Even on applying for a job. Some companies gives a better chance of being hired to the beautiful ones that the not-so-beautiful ones. And if you don't have what it takes to pass that standards, "better luck next time.
In our social life, this type of discrimination was observed. Nowadays, most people gets attracted by what's on outside appearance. They'll choose those who have the looks rather than those who do not. And once they found s person with such characteristic, they just felt infatuated, not in loved.
Adolescents also faces the same dilemma. At school, bullying is a common problem faced among young adults. Others are being bullied because of their appearance. This case is mainly the starting point of this widely spreading type of discrimination.
Because of this, those who were being exposed or stuck on situations like that are prone to having low self-confidence, trauma, fear, hopelessness, feeling of being isolated, and leads to depression or worst case: suicide.
Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.
1 Peter 3:3-4
The essence of true beauty doesn't just lie on what we see, but on what our eyes could not see. It lies on what the heart has. How I wish everyone could realize it.
